Type Locality and Naming

Includes in Khation Region, Darvaz district, Hisar-Zarafshan ranges, Dushanbe - west Shirkent-Luchob, Dushanbe - east Shirkent-Luchob.

Synonym: Karikansay horizon, карикансайскому горизонту

Lithology and Thickness

In the Dushanbe region, is composed of reddish-brown and varicolored sandstones with layers of siltstones (25-65 m).

In the South Gissar region (upstream of the Znadda, Luchob, Shirkeng rivers, etc.) the lower part of the Cenomanian (Tyubegan and Karikansay horizons) consists of greenish-gray and red-colored clays with layers of limestone up to 90-100 m in thickness.

In the Kafirnigan district, the Karikansay horizon (карикансайский горизонт) - by alternating sandstones and argillites, containing layers of gypsum and limestones with 40-70 m thickness.

In the Darvaz district, The Karikansaysky horizon corresponds to the Khatham Fm, consisting of variegated sandstones with layers of gravelites and small-gravel conglomerates (50-130 m).

In the Vakhsh district, the Karikansay horizon - alternating sandstones and argillites with layers of gypsum and limestones (45-60 m).

In the Karategin region, The Karikansay horizon (Карикансайский горизонт) is composed of colorful sandstones with siltstone layers (50 m).

Overlies the Tubegatan Fm (Tyubegan Fm)

Overlain by the Tagarin Fm, "Polychrome Fm"; or the Gazdagan Fm

NE Turkestan district in the basin of the river Isfara; and Turkestan region, including the Zeravshan valley, as well as in the Zeravshan-Gissar region, Dushanbe region, South Gissar region, Kafirnigan district, Vakhsh district, Karategin region.

In the Darvaz district (Afghan-Tajik Basin), the Karikansaysky horizon corresponds to the Khatham Fm
